Emergency Services at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital include a 24/7 Emergency Department as well as Ambulance Service. Our Emergency Department is very proud to be a Level IV Trauma Center.
The Pocahontas Memorial Hospital Ambulance Service is a division of the hospital’s Emergency Services. The service provides the county’s only 24 hours a day, seven day a week, 365 days a year advanced life support service. The PMH Ambulance Service is an “A” rated EMS agency as accredited by the West Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services. All of our paramedics are trained IFT3 advanced level providers. When necessary, we utilize our critical care trained nurses, physicians, and respiratory therapists for specialty care transfers.
The primary function of the ambulance service is to provide interfacility transfers from Pocahontas Memorial Hospital to higher levels of care.

Pocahontas Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department provides 24 hour emergency care with a nurse and physician on duty at all times. The hospital was recently designated as a Level IV Trauma Center. As a trauma care center, PMH is now equipped to monitor, stablize, and evaluate critical patients to determine if they need to be transferred to a higher level of care. Helicopter transfer is available for extremely critical cases. Doctors and nurses who will work on trauma cases have received specialized training.
