BUCKEYE, WV: Confused about the new healthcare laws going into effect with the Affordable Care Act? Need to sign up for insurance but not sure how or where to go? Pocahontas Memorial Hospital is very pleased to be an official Certified Application Counselor Organization to assist you in researching your health insurance options and even filling out your application.
Beginning October 1, you may shop the Health Insurance Marketplace for new insurance coverage and determine your eligibility for federal subsidies that would help cover the cost of these plans. Subsidies will be available to those making up to 400% of the Federal Poverty Level (around $46,000 for an individual and $94,000 for a family of four). Qualified Health Plans will be offered at different levels of coverage, but all must include certain preventive services and ten essential health benefits, including prescription drug coverage.
Medicaid, which is health coverage provided by the state, has been expanded to cover West Virginians making up to 138% of the Federal Poverty Level. If you are an individual making up to $15,280 or a family of four with an income up to $31,000, you may qualify for Medicaid. Medicaid eligibility can also be determined through the exchange.
For both expanded Medicaid coverage and plans purchased from the new exchange, coverage is effective January 1, 2014. Beginning in 2014, those without health coverage (with some exceptions) will be required to pay a penalty when they file their 2014 taxes.
As a Certified Application Counselor Organization, Pocahontas Memorial Hospital has trained staff members who can provide assistance to all members of our community. Our Certified Application Counselors can help you shop for coverage through the exchange, and determine your eligibility for Medicaid and Federal subsidies. Please call (304) 799-7400 ext. 1000 to make an appointment with one of these counselors or to have your exchange-related questions answered.
